چکیده

Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are a class of acoustic signals that are generated in the cochlea and transmitted backward to the ear canal through the middle ear. This is attributed to the active nonlinear mechanism in the cochlea [Kemp 1978]. Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) are a special type of OAEs generated in response to two pure tone acoustic stimuli with sound pressure levels 1 L and 2 L and are best detected when the following relations are applied [Kummer et. al., 1998]:

Evanescent Waves at the Interface between Ear Canal and Otoacoustic Emission Probe

The measurement of otoacoustic emissions (OAE) allows for an objective examination of the cochlear function. However, the validity of OAE tests is affected negatively by calibration errors, rendering the diagnosis less accurate. In this report, we shed light on the evanescent waves arising at the interface between the OAE probe and the ear canal. For this purpose, finite element models of the e...

Characteristics of the 2f(1)-f(2) distortion product otoacoustic emission in a normal hearing population.

Distortion-product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) fine structure and component characteristics are reported between 0.75 and 16 kHz in 356 clinically normal hearing human subjects ages 10 to 65 yr. Stimulus tones at 55/40, 65/55, and 75/75 dB SPL were delivered using custom designed drivers and a calibration method that compensated for the depth of insertion of the otoacoustic emission (OAE) prob...

Distribution of standing-wave errors in real-ear sound-level measurements.

Standing waves can cause measurement errors when sound-pressure level (SPL) measurements are performed in a closed ear canal, e.g., during probe-microphone system calibration for distortion-product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) testing. Alternative calibration methods, such as forward-pressure level (FPL), minimize the influence of standing waves by calculating the forward-going sound waves sepa...

Introduction of an Experimental Model for the Rapid Destruction of Hair Cells: the Use of Dpoaes in Assessment of Rat Ear Function

Purpose: the aim of thos survey is establishment of an animal model through which a rapid distortion of the hair cell of cochlea administering amikacin and furosemide and using distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) the functioning of rat’s ear would be assessed.Materials and Methods: Forty-eight male Sprague dawley rats (with average of weight 200-250g, 12 weeks post natal) were rando...

Latency of DPOAE in milliseconds and waves Summary

The latency of Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions is defined as the time interval between the wave onset from initial stimulation and the return to the ear canal. Aim: The aim of this research was to verify the latency of the distortion product otoacoustic emissions in normal hearing adults, analyzing the influence of the gender, ear, frequencies and measurements. Study design: clinical p...
